Why not just open the DV captured clip in AE? You’ll not gain anything exporting it with the animation codec… General rule of thumb: the less you do to a media file once captured, the cleaner it stays…

All you need do is double click the next clip from the Browser and the Viewer would be active.
Otherwise if you are working with many takes in one clip, you do have to type cmd 1 or click on the Viewer again…

If you capture 24pa with the option of removing the pulldown pattern on the fly, they will be 24fps files…
If you scale each camera down to about 45% in the Motion Tab, you can easily layer them and arrange them in the Canvas so you can see them all… then if you want you can export this file as a self contained QT movie.
If you can wait until FCP 5 comes out some time this month… it’s new multicam editing is really quite robust and easy to do…

The Single SATA would handle a stream of 8 bit uncompressed, but… 10? probably not.
It will handle DVCPRO100 footage all day long. Probably a couple of streams at least.

Not a fan of the Dazzle, and wonder if that isn’t part of the problem, however you cannot have both it and and camera connected at the same time, nor can you have the log and capture window open if you want to view externally. I’d start by disconnecting the Hollywood box, and using just the camera. If this fails, you might try resetting the PMU switch on your motherboard. It’s near the battery, and you must have the Mac’s power cord disconnected when you push this little button. It resets the power management on your mac (also zaps the pram), and I’ve seen this fix FW port problems, if this is the problem…

Is there a common media file involved with these “heavy” renders? could be that this file is corrupt…

It’s been a while, but I don’t think renders will follow from sequence to sequence in FCP 2.x… I think that began with FCP 3.

True, I’ve been making a living with Mac’s for years (ran Avids on them too). Also true my clients’ PC’s are riddled with viruses. After his hard drive was wiped twice in a single year, my best client switched to a mac. He’s estactic… Since 1989 when I bought my first Mac, I’ve NEVER had anything remotely like a virus attack me.
My 4 1/2 year old dual 533 G4 could be sold on ebay today for well over 500 bucks. Show me a 4 1/2 year old PC that sold for about $2,000 that you could say this about… you can’t. 4 1/2 year old PC’s are doorstops. I run Mail, Word, FCP, DVD SP 3, and Motion all at the same time all of the time nearly. Oh yeah, I also run Safari, and check/download email on a minute by minute basis… always connected to the Internet. Always. Guess what? My identity is STILL intact.
I don’t sell Macs, so don’t quite see how this is self serving, other than I want to truly help those who switch. Why? I dunno, maybe it’s because FCP and Apple changed my entire lifestyle for the better. I get to be home, I work at home, I don’t have to support an expensive Avid anymore in an office that was pretty expensive too… there are other reasons I promote Macs, but none are helping me personally, I’m just passing it forward.
Make no mistake, Mac users are more fanatic about their systems than anybody, and there must be a vaild REASON… they aren’t just spending more, they feel they get more. Have you ever known a group of folks that spend more because they WANT to? I’ve not had that sort of life experience. Everything about the contruction, design, OS (especially the OS) is way superior to anything windows anywhere near the same price. I’ve not seen a system crash in over two years now on release software… anyone who disagrees is certainly welcome to comment, but there’s a reason we all truly love our Apple setups. They just plain work, and it doesn’t take an IT degree to keep them that way either.
