not getting firewire signal coming out, but captures fine going in
Hello everyone,
I have been having problems getting a firewire signal out of FCP. I’ve been using
firewire out > into a DV converter to RCA (Hollywood Dazzle bridge) > plugged into a
monitor to watch my cuts. Ever since I brought in DV footage using firewire from a
mini dv camera, I can’t get a firewire signal out into the monitor thru the bridge or straight
into my camera. Also my firewire drive in the other slot unmounts when i plug in the camera’s
firewire cord. Getting signal in but nothing out. Anyone have any ideas? ThanksG4 quicksilver

Not a fan of the Dazzle, and wonder if that isn’t part of the problem, however you cannot have both it and and camera connected at the same time, nor can you have the log and capture window open if you want to view externally. I’d start by disconnecting the Hollywood box, and using just the camera. If this fails, you might try resetting the PMU switch on your motherboard. It’s near the battery, and you must have the Mac’s power cord disconnected when you push this little button. It resets the power management on your mac (also zaps the pram), and I’ve seen this fix FW port problems, if this is the problem…

Not a big fan either. I’d look at the Canopus AVDC-100 instead. That being said, follow the rest of Jerry’s suggestions about removing the box and trying just the camera. Also his note on only having one Firewire video / audio device connected at any one time.

I reset the PMU switch but it didn’t work. Any other ideas? My main problem is that I’m using the d2 lacie drive
for all my footage so I have to have it plugged in. The dazzle has been working fine up till now because I have
been digitizing only analog. It was only until I digitized the mini dv footage that things haven’t been working
properly. Any other ideas to get a dv signal out to look at on a monitor as I work? I’m willing to upgrade.

Having the Dazzle not connected, and using the camera only with the Log and Capture window closed, and the view set to “all frames” isn’t working then? Are you connecting the camera to it’s own FW port on the Mac? if not try that too.

Setting View to “All Frames” did the trick. Thank you. I’m still using the Dazzle.
