I’d not want the heat of extra internals burning up my Mac… G5’s were designed for only 2 drives ya know?

Depends on the capability of the recording deck… you can just do a video insert if the video deck can do an insert edit.

If you have a compelling reason to upgrade, FCP 5.0.2 is really quite stable if you’ve performed a clean install. By that I mean an erase and install of Tiger, update it, then install FCP 5 and update it… I started by using a separate disk drive from my Panther, FCP 4.5 system. (keeping it intact – just in case…) Each FCP 4.x and 3.x project file I’ve opened was from a copy not the original etc… I haven’t touched the Panther system now in quite a while…

Good question… I’ll wager that the DV codec used in the Vegas system isn’t compatible (might ask in the Vegas forum here at the COW), but a tape would be… you just recapture the DV that way.

Are you capturing the video using the native codec or the intermediate codec via firewire?

What are you using as a media drive? Performance would be contigent on that.. i.e. HD requires some pretty fast drives…

Try exporting a self contained QuickTime movie useing “current settings”… give him that, or then use Compressor to deliver a smaller file with, using the Sorenson 3 codec on the video clip in compressor.
