Try not being so heavy handed with the mouse or use keyboard shortcuts… or click on the add keyframe button…

Might try exporting the file as a self contained QT movie using current settings. Course this will require a lot of disk space, but it’s the easiest thing for your computer to playback reliably.

There are some housekeeping chores that OS X performs automatically if you leave your system turned on all the time… Probably should repair permissions using Apple’s Drive Utiltiy every week or any time you add any software to your system…
BUT NOTHING speeds up your Mac better than redoing your startup disk from the ground up… (Backup what you need, then perform an erase and install of Tiger, update it, then install FCP on that new system and update it too…Adding RAM will help too if you are doing a lot of disk caching running many apps at one time. But there really aren’t a bunch of utilties made to “clean up” your hard drives etc… this just isn’t really an issue much anymore as long as you perform those things I’ve mentioned above.

FCP can export an AVI file… just use file/export/QT Conversion… and set the exported file to be an AVI.

Boy… your system sounds pretty ill. It’s either software or hardware always… Post how you go to your setup software wise. Did you do a clean install of Tiger or did your computer come shipped with it? And when was the last time you rebuilt your startup disk?
Have you added RAM recently? Your problems are not normal.

Ya know? I’ve not ever read a post about how to do this one… These files are AVI based files or?
But I’d think if you can open those media files in another PC app you could export them as QT movies from there… i.e. maybe something like After Effects on a PC? I’m fishin, but don’t know of any other software that will work with those files personally, but I’ll wager you do…

Motion doesn’t recognize FCP transitions for one thing. What do you mean when you say “I duplicate the layer”?
What were you wanting to do in motion?

The quality of a no change setting self contained QT movie should be the same as you’d see with your sequence playing externally on a video monitor after a render. Is it?

It’s a dead end sort of for FCP. It’s sure a great computer though. You wouldn’t have problems with current FCP software at all (Motion isn’t going to run too well on it don’t think), it’s limited by it’s expandability… What sort of work do you want to do with your system?
