There’s a “reveal Master clip” command (shift +f) which will reveal the master clip in the browser of anything in the sequence as long as there is a master clip associated with the edit. It’s very similar to what Avid does… shows you the clip in the bin it’s in…

RAM… check your RAM on that machine… Run it with only a pair of sticks at a time until stability shows up… if this doesn’t help, I’d have an Apple Repair center take a peek…

The Kernal Panics aren’t good… could be many different things, but ruling out bad RAM is where I’d begin. Remove pairs of sticks at a time until stability shows up… Then you know it’s the RAM. If this doesn’t help things, Software reinstallation is probably next. KP’s aren’t common, and can be tough to pin down…
Are you working with anything other than DV?

Sounds like you need to set your playback settings to RGB in the Canvas window. This setting is found in the oval button on the left in the top area of the Canvas.

If you can make a QT movie, don’t fight it… just do that, and import the file back and put the audio in your sequence from that? It’s a bad media file (audio probably) dollars to doughnuts…

Not easy I’m afraid… but not impossible by any means.
The answer is to combine all projects into one project, all clips from each etc… then select all of the sequences you want to keep. Next, type cmd+f, and set the find dialog box that opens to search the entire project for media that is UNUSED, then click Find All. The resulting window will contain all media that’s imported into this new project, but isn’t in the sequences… you can then select all of these clips and control click on one of them and select “Make Offline”, from there you can delete the files.

Seems it takes a very long time to compress HDV native to SD MPEG… That’s the killer, if the final program is short, it’s probably not a problem. For example, I’ve read of 2 hour shows taking days to encode to SD DVD’s…
There’s a third option for you though. Might try the intermediate HDV codec if you can’t capture the material as true HD with capture card etc… This codec is an all i-frame codec, and should work great. Better than doing DV down conversion I’d think.

Do you have a serial adapter for your Mac so you can use that with the DSR-1500? It’s more reliable than TC thru Firewire…
Are you blacking the front of the tape with FCP before the assemble?
