It’s being reported pretty widely that laCie drives are causing this sort of problem. seems to be coming from a connection break in the firewire port on the drive. Re soldering it might help, but I’ve successfully cloned one of these drives to another with Data Rescue II. https://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
Clones the drive no matter what, then repairs to the copy brought back the data… copy has to be to another drive of course…

JVC’s 720p 30 works directly, but the 24 doesn’t … so you need the software for it.

The smoothest workflow in HDV is using Sony’s flavor. JVC’s 60i works I hear but the rest of the formats that they provide require Lumiere HD to work in FCP. Apparently the Canon product doesn’t work at all directly. (have to capture it as uncompressed HD, but it has an SDI out from the camera to do this with, requiring seriously fast disk arrays for the job, and a capture card).
I’d be asking the client if they can’t spend a bit more and shoot with the Panasonic P2 camera… better format all around. In any event, you wouldn’t have the long render back to MPEG times with it.These times can be very substantial depending on the length of the program. The GOP structure of HDV has to be remade when you either encode for SD or HD DVD’s, or even when you record back to an HDV tape. It’s a very long process -like days for a feature on a dual G5…

Try exporting a non self contained QT movie instead. That way the file is actually referencing the original media. If you export using QT conversion, you recompress every time.

Try removing the 2:3 pulldown in Cinema Tools, If it works OK in a 23.98 sequence the DP shot 24p, and not advanced.

Sleep plays havoc with FCP running. Is that what’s going on? You can sleep the monitors, but you can’t sleep the drives very well it seems.

WELL….you can revert back to QT6, or buy the upgrade for QT7Pro, or upgrade to the Suite… which imho is the best deal…

I’ve had such good luck with Crucial, but also have had OK RAM come from 6allmemeory… before I started buying from Crucial… at the time i bought last though, the prices were pretty close.
