  • Trying to recover media – Getting various disk error messages???

Posted by Rob Sankey on March 8, 2006 at 1:38 pm

I have a rather large FCP project with media that I’m having trouble accessing. I’m using an external lacie firewire drive. When I try to verify the disc (in disk utility) this is the error message I’m getting.
Verify volume failed with error Could not unmount disk???
    I’m using OS 10.4.5 / Final Cut 5.0.4
I also tried using Disk Warrior and I got a message: Could not repair disk, disk is in use, close all other applications and try again. – BUT NO OTHER APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN.
    ??? Please help!

    Losing my mind,

It’s being reported pretty widely that laCie drives are causing this sort of problem. seems to be coming from a connection break in the firewire port on the drive. Re soldering it might help, but I’ve successfully cloned one of these drives to another with Data Rescue II. https://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php

Clones the drive no matter what, then repairs to the copy brought back the data… copy has to be to another drive of course…

I second Data Rescue. It has saved me.

Thanks Very Much. I just began running Data Rescue II and it looks like it’s proceeding OK. The only thing is that it’s moving very slow. It says TIME REMAINING: 55 Hours, and I’ve already had it running for a few hours now.
    Does this sound right?
