Not gonna work well the way you’re doing this.
It would be best to use Cinema Tools to do the pulldown removal. The User’s manual there will guide you thru the steps.

There’s software drivers too you need to run to have the mac see the Keyspan. if you don’t have them, you can download them from Keyspan.com

You should have the option to use the serial port supplied by the keyspan… does your system profiler see a serial port now? If so, you should be able to select RS-422 for control of the Sony deck… the one that’s right for this is here: https://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA28x/ The others aren’t gonna work don’t think.

Could working with aux timecode help? You can put any timecode in those fields, media online or not.

Anders, You’ll be disappointed… Hey, if Apple is saying no… what more really should you need? Since it will install, and run, I’d not think that running sluggishly is going to make you very happy… Save your pennies for a MBP… there’s the real answer.

I think I’d try using the offlineRT HD settings that match the frame rate of your source (using media manger is the way to do this)… rather than SD, which would create much larger files, and if the frame rate doesn’t match, could be a problem later, so use what’s designed to be used for this, and you’ll be home free to reconnect…

I think your problem stems from the fact you are capturing to your internal startup disk… it’s dropping frames sounds like. Try capturing to another drive again. What happens when you setup a FW drive and attempt a capture? If it fails, do you have another drive to try? Some will work without a hitch, I do it all the time. I’ve done it with Granite Digital drives, and with Weibetech drives and with G-Tech drives.

What brand is the FireWire drive? Your problem sounds like it’s the drive’s FW port becoming flaky. The drive goes off the desktop then back quickly when the port on it isn’t making a steady connection…

I suppose it could be a bad FW port or cable, but it’s more likely something else. Is the source machine clean? might try cleaning it. Also capture audio to a drive other than the startup disk… that will help. Turn on the “abort capture” on dropped frames too, then you’ll know if it’s the fact the drive isn’t keeping up with captures.

Might try reinstalling QuickTime… there’s an article on how to do this in the Apple Support area.
