Reinstall this way:

Go to /Library/Receipts and, if found, drag the following files to the Trash:

Compressor.pkg
Qmaster_Applications.pkg
Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg
Qmaster_Plugins.pkg
Qmaster_Services.pkg
Then, go to /Applications and, if found, drag the following files to the Trash:

Compressor
Apple QMaster
Apple Qadministrator
From your install disc, reinstall Compressor and Apple Qmaster (in custom install window, make sure that Compressor and Apple Qmaster items are checked). Once you have reinstalled the Compressor and QMaster applications and services, install all updates using Software Update and restart your computer.

Crop them if you see them in the Canvas. If you only see them externally, then it’s the monitor adding them (mine does this).

1. Look at a Kona 3. It will convert the HDV to anything up or down…as long as you don’t change frame rates, this is the way to go… You need a way to turn the analog to SDI as well…. With that camera, you’ll need extra software if you want to work in 24fps though (capturing via firewire) and want to skip the Kona… but it will constrain you to transcoding in software (taking more time and space).
Budget??? There are other solutions… but the Kona 3 would be my choice in a hearbeat.

3. The Kona will convert the the SD to HDV while you capture it.
4. Momma always said you canoot have too much computer, too much RAM, nor too fast a drive array… it’s Not necessary, but if you want to work in a better color space, converting the HDV to DVCPROHD (Kona will do this during capture) is a winning way to go. I’m writing an article on all this for the next COW Magazine… For 10 bit uncompressed you’ll have to have an array of some kind. Budget?
5. I like the Pro Training manuals acutally. They are follow along excercises, and they do the job. My own book will also work in FCP 5. Actually none of the resources are bad in any way. More info in my book than in 2 others though. The effects book that Kevin Monahan is a goodie…
6. That one’s anyone’s guess… Those that know can’t talk and those who are talking don’t know. The current Quad machine is one screaming Mac though…

Odd indeed. You’re sure that it’s not dropping frames during playback only?

The best workflow I can think of would be to export the sequence directly to avi… that intermediate step isn’t necessary and theory would state you lose something doing it… Don’t change any frame rates or size at all. if it’s large so be it…

The only way to remove 2:3:2:3 is Cinema Tools. FCP can only remove 2:3:3:2 (Advanced pulldown) during capture.

There are “Advanced conversions’ in compressor 2 that will do this. or https://www.nattress.com has a dandy standards converter.

Cinewave drivers are your problem I’ll bet. They haven’t been updated in a very long time, and certainly never for Tiger. I’d be looking for another way to get the HDCAM in… maybe someone can capture it for you with an AJA or Decklink card?

After downloading it from Apple, register it to “QuickTime Pro” and enter your serial number. The pro features are in the code, and you just turn them on when you register.
