    Hi all,

I have little dots/lines at the top edge of my picture 16 x 9? Like some sort of bar code. Can anyone tell me why and how to get rid of them.

Digitizing from a Sony 1500AP DVCAM deck.

    Cheers Paul

Crop them if you see them in the Canvas. If you only see them externally, then it’s the monitor adding them (mine does this).

Those are lil robotic bugs introduced by dirty bnc cables.

Please put your cables in the washer for a quick rinse, air dry and you should be fine.

But seriously folks what you are seeing is VITC timecode. You don’t need to get rid of them as they are essential to your post production workflow.

The exact placement of where VITC timecode ends up is determined either by the camcorder or vtr menu settings which allow selecting what video line the VITC will be recorded to.

If you are viewing the anamorphic image on a non native 16×9 monitor in letterbox mode you will see the non active video area which includes the VITC timecode.

FWIW The lines at the top of 16:9 footage aren’t VITC, it’s the signal to say that it’s anamorphic. Either way just blank them out!
