Sounds like the TV’s cables need looking into or the TV’s going south somehow.. it’s simply not monitoring what you are actually capturing apparently.

The Z1U shoots HDV as well as DV… so HDV captured as uncompressed 8 bit NTSC will look better than if it was material that was shot DV.. What you’ll gain in either case is colorspace. Graphics, titles etc will look better in 8 bit uncompressed than if you’d captured DV material as DV then edited DV.

Where are you located? Will you care about support? Why not an intel mac?

Both AJA products will down convert to SD in real time, and the Kona 3 will cross convert in or out… i.e. 720 to 1080 and back etc… I’m partial to AJA products, because the service is local, but folks also like the Multibridge… If you go with the Konas though buy the breakout box too… sure makes cabling easy.

Sounds like you’re trying to import it as a media file instead of the batch list import…. is that what’s happening?

Sounds likely they’ve given you CMYK files (used for print). You need RGB. But you can transform the colorspace in Photoshop if you have just about any version. Do that and try a resize in Photoshop.. not fcp if you can (smaller sounds like might be good here… sort of depends on the image itself.

What’s confusing you is the way you read digital meters as oppossed to analog. -12 works really well I think as you new house 0 as displayed on analog meters.

FCP has a set of analog meters btw… they are the Master outs in the Audio Mixer.

Hardware converts are great… Kona’s work stand alone… You loop thru them and they cross convert etc..
