I am fast approaching the moment of truth regarding mastering my movie which was shot and edited mostly in HDV. I actually have screened the film theatrically once, using an HDV deck. It went well. I will need to provide a number of exhibition formats ranging from Digibeta to HDCAM and possibly DVCProHD. I live and work in the jungle and don’t have these decks.

My thought is to export my 2 one-hour sequences as quicktime movies in the DVCProHD codec. Then.., armed with a portable firewire drive, I can go anywhere with FCP, decks, and Kona cards and get the needed dubs made. I don’t want to haul my raid and controller card around.

How does this sound to you folks?

    Thanks,

    Jay,

That is done every day here in the jungle known as Hollywood. Should work in your jungle too.

Hardware converts are great… Kona’s work stand alone… You loop thru them and they cross convert etc..

Thanks, guys. With any luck I might break through at one or more of the following festivals:

    Hollywood
    Ft. Lauderdale
    Austin
    Hawaii
    Indy Memphis
    Woodstock
& Chicago (all of these notify within the next 2 weeks)

BTW, I noticed that if I used the Kona DVCProHD codec it looked crappy. If I use the one that comes with QT it is fine. I wonder what is up with that? I have a G5 Quad and Kona LHe.

    Jay
