Install FCS 3, make copies of these projects and simply open them in FCP 7, and let them update.

Sure they really aren’t there? (you would have had to have trashed them, did you?) Check the setting in the bottom of the Effects Menu to see if “all” effects are set to be available.

FCP 4.5 will not run on intel machines. 5.1 or later will.

There is likely some media there that FCP doesn’t like. The memory error isn’t drive problems, it’s RAM problems.
Blank Layers in Photoshop files imported to FCP can cause this for example.
What is the format of the sequence you’re working with, and what are the properties of the source clips?

https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2521 Contains Apple’s info on the changes to 7.03 which included changes in AVCHD importing… Sure could have something to do with your experiences.

I just tried something similar… No problems exporting gradients etc with alpha as a tiff with millions + selected. Might try that unless you’ve an animation going on and need a QT movie. If so choose ProRes 4444 or the Animation codec and it should work just fine. But I’d use the still if the text doesn’t animate.

When you chose “still image” from the export using QT conversion command, there is an “options” button to click to choose PNG or Tiff. Try that instead.

I don’t think it’s the card… however using it to capture the video with or run the drive with is better than looping because that card does add another bus. Might try swapping it around… put the drive in the card or the live feed in the card instead of the way it is.
Might be time to clean install that machine though if you use it a lot and you’ve not done it in a long time.

Maybe that drive is just slowing down?
True it’s best to not loop FW through a drive to a signal, it’s actually best to get an express card that adds a second FW bus.
