    Hi.

I’m trying to track down a problem with the Sony HXR-MC50U. Has anyone had trouble copying or importing the AVCHD files from this camera in an older version of FCP (6 or 7.0.1)? I got the spinning beach ball during both processes (copying the files to the computer and importing using log and transfer) on computers with FCP 6 and FCP 7.0.1 but had no problem with 7.0.3. I’m working at a university and wanted to see if I could confirm with other users that you need 7.0.3 to use the files from this camera. The software at the school is all 7.0.3, but students have a variety of versions for personal use. If it’s not the version, then I need to do some more research.

    Thanks,

    – Bruce

https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2521 Contains Apple’s info on the changes to 7.03 which included changes in AVCHD importing… Sure could have something to do with your experiences.

    Yes…

There was an issue with AVCHD from that camera when the audio recorded was LPCM audio. Any clip over a few minutes long took HOURS to import. I ran into this with FCP 7.0.2. At the time the only solution was Clipwrap2…that bypasses this issue (I worked with the author of that app to figure this out). But then the update to FCP 7.0.3 fixed the problem.

So you either need FCP 7.0.3, or Clipwrap2.
