  • missing FxPlug (SmoothCam etc) plugins

My FxPlugs have gone missing. I had this problem a couple of years ago and got it fixed. I see in an older post, someone provided a .sit with those plugins, but it’s from a couple of years ago, so I assume those are from FCS2. I found a post on the Apple site which said to run in Terminal; “open /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ProAppsEffects.pkg” but that must also be for FCS2 since the FCS3 disk is entitled “Final Cut Studio Install”. Can someone tell me the proper command string to extract and install the FxPlug filters for FCS3?

Sure they really aren’t there? (you would have had to have trashed them, did you?) Check the setting in the bottom of the Effects Menu to see if “all” effects are set to be available.

I did set all effects to be available. There’s literally nothing in the FxPlug folder. This is a problem that I’ve encountered before. I guess it’s being wiped out by another installation, like a ProApps update, or when installing either Quicktime 7 from the Snow Leopard disc (which I recently did, after FCS was installed), or from installing either Magic Bullet Looks Suite or Trapcode Suite (both of which were also installed recently).

I don’t have a lot of third party plug ins, so they “might” be trashing those, but I sure don’t think they should… the Apple updates definintely did NOT trash them… had they done so, we’d all see the problem.

I think you need to reinstall FCP quite frankly to get it right.

I had used smoothcam previously then I just installed snow leopard and now no smoothcam filter and the fxplug folder is empty. I haven’t installed anything else, plugins etc, so it must be the mac, yeah?
