gnomebard- HDV is 1440×1080 native. Take the still into photoshop and make it 1920×1080.

Gallery9- On upgrade suspect that you lost your working audio/video settings in FCP. First check that your computer is seeing the camera; Apple menu>about this mac>more info>firewire. Is the camera there? If not you have a camera settings issue or cable issue. Launch FCP; easy settings>HDV firewire>log and capture. What do you see? VTR control? Picture? Sound?

The issue could still be camera settings. Go to camera I/O menu and reconfirm settings.

GenDelmarva- Use the ‘capture clip’ button. It will give you the log notes. ‘Log clip’ and ‘batch capture’ also will give you logging entries.

Red- Install a kona card>plug the video out/audio out into a dvd record deck>press record on deck>
press space bar to roll show in FCP timeline.

Is that simple enough?

David- This was happening to me also. I finally narrowed it down to the speed of the Mac G-5 burner. It was only 4x.
When I put 8x or 16x media in it was rejected. Rather than do a swap out of the burner I bought and 16x external firewire burner for $29 and I can use the faster media.

David- That may be your answer. I tried to do the same but my G-5 burner is a Sony and for some reason the firmware update on a Sony burner could not be done on the G-5.

Cadobee- You didn’t mention HD or SD. I’m guessing SD. We digitize 8-bit uncompressed SD (edgecrop) from the component out of our HDV deck through our Kona LH. We edit FCP 8-bit uncompressed and are very pleased with our results both for DVD and output to Betacam. This way we avoid all the HDV mpeg edit issues.
