i’ve been working with hdv footage from my z1u for many month without any issues. i recently installed an upgrade to 5.1 so i could work with xdcam footage on a current project. suddenly, when i went to dump in some hdv footage i spent the day shooting, i can no longer communicate with my camera. i’ve tried everything i could think of and am a loss. i’ve replaced the cable, resent the camera…

does anyone have any suggestions? what am i missing here?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if this will help…but, FCP does not recognize my camera, when it says it
can not find it, I click cancel, go to log and capture and it captures.

Gallery9- On upgrade suspect that you lost your working audio/video settings in FCP. First check that your computer is seeing the camera; Apple menu>about this mac>more info>firewire. Is the camera there? If not you have a camera settings issue or cable issue. Launch FCP; easy settings>HDV firewire>log and capture. What do you see? VTR control? Picture? Sound?

The issue could still be camera settings. Go to camera I/O menu and reconfirm settings.

    Hope this helps.

    jerry,

thanks for your suggestions. by going through the “Apple menu>about this mac>more info>firewire” step, i was able to confirm that the computer is seeing the camera. which lead me to being able to confirm that the downconvert settings from HDV to DV are able to be used to access the footage within final cut (as downconverted dv format). this eliminates a few variables, and in my mind isolates the problem to the “sony hdv” firewire settings within final cut. or an issue in the ilink settings within the camera (perhaps a firmware update is required?).

to be more specific, when i try to use the HDV settings within final cut (depending on which one i select, a generic or sony hdv specific) i either get a message saying that there is no hdv source and that this might occur if the camera is set to DV (which it is not) or that there is no device connected.

any further thoughts you, or anyone else, might have would be helpful. and greatly appreciated.

    thanks!
