The simplest way to slow a clip down is to grab the edge of the clip and while holding [CTRL], drag the clip and so slowing down motion.
The other option would be to add a velocity envelope to the event. Right-click the video event, choose Insert/Remove Envelope from the shortcut menu, and then choose Velocity from the submenu.

I have had a similar problem with varied suppliers of dvd’s. One option before contacting them might be to dload a version of Cyberlinks’ Powerdvd and try and watch the dvd with that. If it does work then your Windows media codecs may be corrupt (which can happen)

Any particular reason for you wanting to use XVid or Divx?
Most delivery formats are for a DVD or SVCD and then one would use mpeg for this option giving you maximum quality.
If size is an issue, you can vary the bitrates at which the output is rendered at.

For any newbie, my suggestion would be to get hold of a set of training dvd’s. These not only give you a good insight into the inner working of Vegas, but also allows you to gain knowledge from experts in the field who have been using Vegas for a long time.
Many of us most likely started in a very similar fashion.
You are fortunate in that the learning curve for Vegas as by no means as steep as other NLE’s out there which for some, can be daunting.
Rest assured in that your choice was a wise one, and being backed by Sony, it can only grow from strength to strength.

What format are your pics in? have you tried converting to a png file.
I too sometimes get this with hi-res photo’s and after changing to a PNG file and adding “reduce interlace flicker”, my problems disappear.

Something is definitely amiss. When you specify mpeg2 as a rendering format, you must be able to change settings further under the custome button.
Try selecting one of the default templates for rendering (eg dvd ntsc)

Your best solution would be to render all your avi’s to one mpeg file (provided your drive isn’t a fat32 as Steve has suggested)
Putting the two mpeg files back onto the timeline and re-rendering would result in additional compression which is not advised.

IMHO the vx2100 is not a major step up from where you are now. The world is shouting HDV and HD and I would seriously consider cameras in this scenario. I personally believe the vx2100 is not going to be around much longer
