  • How can I slow a clip and get good video using Vegas 6.0?

I need to slow down a file so that I can narrate accurately. I tried to stretch the file, i.e. increase the time, but when I play it back the motion is jerky.
This is some footage taken by my father in 1933 with a 16mm black and white. I am the only person alive who can identify the people in the clip. One thing I have learned is how to take a snapshot and insert it into a 5 sec space. But it would be better if I could slow to .75 speed, and let the pan of the room go.

I’m sure that this can be done?

    Thanks for any hints

The simplest way to slow a clip down is to grab the edge of the clip and while holding [CTRL], drag the clip and so slowing down motion.

The other option would be to add a velocity envelope to the event. Right-click the video event, choose Insert/Remove Envelope from the shortcut menu, and then choose Velocity from the submenu.

    Cheers

The jerky motion is probably seen in the preview window. If you would then render out the section it will probably look fine. Especially if you have ‘resample’ turned on.
