Just wanted to add that CC is a fantastic resource and it’s wise contributors hugely appreciated all round the world – and anyone who gets shirty with them on the phone or otherwise wastes their time deserves all the spam they probably already get x 2

I don’t know whether there’s a PAL 25 / NTSC 30 frame issue here but I’m working PAL SD (Digi Beta) and have found that using a striped tape and Inserting with Edit selected rather than Mastering let’s me drop in totally accurately – once I’ve set up the Device Control parameters correctly (by digitising a clip with BITC via SDI and 9 pin Remote and comparing the onscreen digitised TC with the FCP clip TC).

I would start by trying to use a blacked tape with TC throughout & then using the Master to Tape function set to “Editing” rather than “Mastering”. I’ve had incidences of extra frames & such like & found that this is the best solution.

  • I would turn off all sleep functions in System prefs – they only confuse FCP. I don’t think it’s peculiar to Blackmagic cards.

DVW 500P – yes editing and mastering seem to make it behave diferently – don’t ask me why!! Good luck.

Have you checked in Systrem Settings that you’re using the right Playback Using setting ?

Sorry not to have got back sooner – I’m using PAL 25 fps but did have to play around with the Playback delay – it’s back on 4 ff now but that might be to do with the deck I’m using. But certainly if your using a striped tape I would only use Editing rather than Mastering in the Edit to Tape window. Hope that helps.

  • I’ve had this similar madening problem too – fiddling with the Device Control Pre-set (altering frame delay in playback) & also always using Edit to tape rather than Master seem to be the work-arounds. I’m using 8 Bit to Digitbeta & Declink HD btw.

When you digitise you need to uncheck tracks 3 upwards in the Clip Settings part of the digitise window. Not sure how you’ll delete the tracks you don’t need except by bringing them up one by one and doing it like that. Stereo pair will mean linking them (Shift + L) and then panning track 1 hard left & track 2 hard right in the viewer window.

I’ve always thought that this was a problem of having the ‘stop playback on dropped frames’ unchecked. My way round is to make sure when I’m playing back just to give a 5 sec run up. It usually happens when you start playing audio from say half way through a fade in or when it’s part of a rubber-banded clip. Similar thing happens on Avid you may be pleased to know!
