Try Quicktime PhotoJPG at 100% quality,
you won’t notice the compression even after a few recompresses and it’s 4:4:4
It has a little colour-shift but that can easily be corrected in your editing app.

Slice-up you image in Photoshop and tile it back together in After Effects. That will override the memory problems, even with 3D camera.

    At first,
there’s no reason at all why you should use After Effects.
A 45 min comp with wipes only… you should be using Final Cut, Premiere, Vegas, MediaStudio….. whatever… but not AE.
You’ll have realtime playback for hours and hours without limitations.
The “Purge Cache” won’t help either in AE.
AE doesn’t like m2t or mpeg-like files but likes uncompressed or Mjpg compression.

    so,
the fastest and only good thing to do would be to Shut Down AE, start up your NLE and start the project over. If you Have Premiere, you can import your AE-comp, so no time is lost at all 🙂

  • Select your layer in the timeline,
    press CTRL+ALT+B
this will adjust you work area to your selected layer
    Right Click your work-area
select “Trim Comp to Work Area”
    done.

this is the fastest method I know

Are you sure you have a dual-core ?
Pentium 4’s are singlecores with hyperthreading ( looks like dualcore but doesn’t give a performance boost)
If I remember correctly, Pentium D’s were the first dual-cores.
Do you have Raid ? if you’re Media and Output are located on the same disk, you harddisk may choke your system with uncompressed avi’s.
try rendering to another phisical drive or use compression.

    As far as I know,
HDLINK only gives you the possibility to convert your SDI signal to DVI or HDMI, so you still need a blackmagic Decklink to output your video.
Even the Decklink HD-card didn’t alow me to do a real-time HD preview in After Effects.
in other words… my good old Parhelia AVPe still outperforms blackmagic cards (in AE)

so right now there doesn’t seem to be a solution 🙁

    The strange thing is;
The Blackmagic-Intensity card can output Uncompressed 10bit 4.4.4 in Première without a single hicup (If you have a fast Raid)
What helps me, is disabling the video preview and using Targa-sequences as output in After Effects,
this way you can render small parts and check the online directly in Première.
    Sad, about the intensity,
my old Matrox PArhelia AVP ran Full HD in Real Time.

May 30, 2008 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Help !! 16 bpc not real time preview

    Just done a little testing;

    1920×1080@8bit: 14seconds07frames ram preview realtime at 25fps
    1920×1080@16bit: 07seconds02frames ram preview realtime at 25fps
1920×1080@32bit: 03seconds14frames ram preview NOT realtime at 22fps

    Running a:
    Quadcore Q6600@3GHz, 8GB Ram, Geforce8600, 2TB Raid0, 2x24inch.

Remember that AE on OSX can use 3GB Ram while AE on Windows64 can use 4GB, I think the extra GB makes a lot of difference.
And if I enable my Blackmagic Intensity in After Effects, I get no realtime-preview at all in HD.

March 22, 2008 at 3:05 pm in reply to: How do i fade my text up from left to right?

    On your text layer,
    ad an Animator for opacity,
in that animator change the opacity to 0 and animate the “start” the range selector.
    done 😉

March 21, 2008 at 1:42 pm in reply to: Using Stroke

It would be better to assign a stroke separately to each mask with “Path” so each stroke instance addresses only one mask. Set the Paint-Style to transparent to see all stroke-effects.
And just keyframe each Stroke effect separately
