    Here’s my situation:

I’m working on an indie TV project using HD. I’m capturing in Vegas from a Sony HD camera. There are quite a few shots that need FX in AE. So far, I’ve been rendering the shots I need from the default m2t to an uncompressed avi to keep as much data quality as possible but this results in about 1.5gb files for 6 seconds of footage.

The question is what format etc. can I render the original file out to for import into AE that will keep as much quality as possible but not result in such crazy huge files?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I can do quicktime. I’ll give that a try and see if the file is less insanely huge. If I can get 30 seconds into under 2gb, I will be happy.

You’ll probably need to resort to a non-lossless compressed format to get those sizes, perhaps DVCPRO HD?

Try Quicktime PhotoJPG at 100% quality,
you won’t notice the compression even after a few recompresses and it’s 4:4:4
It has a little colour-shift but that can easily be corrected in your editing app.
