Often, our clients request an “ISCI” code to be applied. Sometimes they supply it, other times, they don’t.

When they don’t, and they say to just make one up, we do just that. Usually, an ISCI code is a mixture of numbers or letters.

Ones we’ve used in the past are “CPYG-01 07/18” or the like. The first part is our internal job number, and the second is the month/day is was edited.

Get a capture card from AJA or Blackmagic. I use an AJA Xena LS card that easily captures material from my Sony BetaCam 2800 deck. The card can control the deck for batch captures, as well.

With these cards, too, you can output back to BetaCam SP if you need to.

A cheaper alternative is a Canopus box that would “convert” an analog signal to Firewire. But you’d have to manually control your source deck.

Does that mean I can look forward to ridding my desk with my trusty and reliable workhorse, the Sony PVW-2800?

While I edit with a Xena LH HD Premiere Pro system, a bulk of my dub requests are still on BetaCam SP, and therefore, all 4×3 SD.

More and more, clients are requesting DV or DVCAM as opposed to the still-standard Beta tape, but none have yet requested a DVCPRO100 master.

I do think it’s annoying that every time I launch the titler, the window is all out of whack; the pallets are generally way over sized, and the entire window is oddly shaped.

I readjust the pallets size and position hoping that it’ll remember my settings, but the next time I launch it, they’re back to some crazy preset.

Let’s hope this gets fixed in a future update.

Absolutely nothing. I only changed to CS3 and 3.1.1 drivers. Everything else–including the office network set-up–is exactly the same.

That’s why I find this odd.

I suppose I’ll get used to the PGUP/DN keystroke in time, but having the TAB functionality back would be a great timesaver for me.

I wonder if Adobe has “greater plans” for the TAB key…..

That’s bizarre, since Premiere Pro 2.0 let me remap the TAB key in the fashion I described prior.

I wonder why Adobe put a stop to this in CS3.

We have that same deck, and we’ve NEVER been able to ingest anything from the Firewire port. In fact, on some machines, the deck never registers when plugged-into a Firewire port.

We grab everything over SDI or HDSDI from that deck.

Thanks for the input.

I gave it a shot and rendered a clip with lower field first (before, that setting was OFF in my output settings).

While the resulting clip does playback more “smooth”, it appears to “stutter” when playing back on my Premiere timeline.
