  • Remapping “Next/Previous Edit” Keystrokes

Posted by James Orlowski on April 21, 2008 at 7:13 pm

I just upgraded from Premiere Pro CS2 to CS3, and all seems well — at this early stage.

However, I can’t seem to remap the “Go To Next Edit Point” to TAB (from the default Page Down) and the “Go To Previous Edit Point” to SHFT+TAB (from the default Page Up).

I prefer to use the TAB key for this action, as it seems more logical (and it’s what I’m used to from my successful keyboard remapped install of CS2).

When I try to remap this keystroke in CS3, the TAB key has no effect on the playhead in the sequence (in fact, it does nothing). So, I put it back to the default PAGE UP/DOWN, and that works.

    Any thoughts?

As you have discovered, Premiere Pro won’t really allow you to map the Tab key that way. It looks like it does but then nothing happens. Find a different key combo or use the default.

That’s bizarre, since Premiere Pro 2.0 let me remap the TAB key in the fashion I described prior.

I wonder why Adobe put a stop to this in CS3.

Yes it is bizzare. I used TAB to switch between source and monitor. The strangest thing is that TAB does NOTHING in PPro CS3 and cannot even be assigned to anything.

As usual, fill in bug/suggestion report on Adobe website:

Please do, as this is the only way Adobe can hear from us. We cannot expect them to hang around forums reading every post.

    Thanks!

“Bug/Feature” submission sent. Let’s hope they read these things.

I suppose I’ll get used to the PGUP/DN keystroke in time, but having the TAB functionality back would be a great timesaver for me.

I wonder if Adobe has “greater plans” for the TAB key…..
