2.6 is pretty flawless for me.

I may have solved this issue.
I do think it was a QuickTime-update problem.
My QuickTime Pro was 7.4 when I was having failed renders. I downgraded to 7.1.3, and all is well.
Is anyone else sucessfully running QuickTime Pro 7.4 on their AJA Xena systems with Premiere Pro 2.0? If not, I suggest you downgrade, and tell QuickTime (and iTunes) NOT to check to updates.
I think that’s what did me in.

I updated the AJA driver from 2.6 to 3.1, and the error still occurs. (It should be noted that I was successfully using 2.6 for quite some time before this error started to occur regularly.)
Could it be a QuickTime related issue? If I were to create a DV job, the renders are fine.
I’m running QuickTime Pro v7.4. And now that I think of it, this error started to happen around the time QuickTime updated last week.
I’m grasping at straws here.

[AJA Xena Support] “So the AJ-1400EX Manual I found on Panasonic’s website says the deck has RS-422. That is what the XENA will support is RS-422, not RS-232.”
Sorry for the confusion on that aspect. I come from a computer background, so I’m probably interchanging 232 and 222.
And, I don’t know if this matters, but the deck we have is an AJ-HD1400, not a 1400EX.

We’ve done extensive troubleshooting with this problem.
It appears that the only time we get crashes (and yes, they are hard BSOD crashes), is when we attempt to capture HD footage shot with our VeriCam via the SD-SDI port and RS-232 control. It also happens if we capture via the SD-SDI port and for IEEE1394 deck control.
If we attempt to capture standard DVCPRO25 or even DVCAM on the same set-up, it’s fine.
Does this help at all with resolving our issue? Is it some compatibility problem with VeriCam’s output?

Our problem is, however, that our AJ-HD1400 tends to crash our Xena LH workstations no matter WHAT port we use to capture: SD-SDI, HD-SDI, or the Firewire.
So, we can’t even reliably ingest any of our DVCPROHD footage.

Ok, just threw 2 GIGS of RAM in it, and still no HDV presets. I see the folder, but it’s not expandable.
Does the trial cripple the HDV presets? I needed to use the trial to test the HDV functionality. If they do disable the HDV presets in the trial, what good is it?

It is the trial. But I think it’s because the machine only has 1 Gig RAM. I’m going to locate another stick and see if I see the presets (I see the HDV folder, but no contents).

We haven’t really tried that option. Truthfully, if that really does work, it’s not a viable solution as capturing clips MANUALLY without RS-232 deck control would be a royal pain.
And capturing HD footage thru the SD-SDI port is possible; that’s how we get down-converted clips into our machine(s).
