Everyone should upgrade to 5.1.2….
P2 footage import is greatly improved.

Try changing your sequence to DV anamorphic….
if your footage is 16:9 you will want to edit in
16:9… the stills should be OK.
Then use the DVD 16:9 preset…
of course you need to view on a 16:9 screen…
if you did everything right then your 16:9
program should play on a 4:3 screen with letterboxing…
some older DVD players will not playback 16:9 material however…..

What kind of a project are you doing???
Try testing with the FRC the 720 60p footage
to 24p.
And try a test with some of the HVX footage…
take the 24pN footage and export to 60p….
If you have already shot the footage you
have nothing to lose…
determine what would be best for the project
and proceed forward….
When I print 720 24p timelines to tape, FCP
adds the pulldown back in and you end up
with a tape that is 720 60p.

Many high-end posts houses that were AVID only are setting up FCP bays….
They are discovering that many producers are off-lining with FCP
and many projects are being shot with P2 and they find the P2
integration is much tighter with FCP. They may go back to the AVID
for final CC and print to tape.

I am now a happy FCP editor using
P2.

What is the producer doing with the clips???
Just for viewing you could export them out
as H.264 quicktimes….
You could also re-size them to
640×360 to decrease rendering time.

Good question….
It sounds like the 8 gig cards will
span two 4 gig clips together if
you record for lets say in 720 24pN more than 10
minutes on one shot….
This should be no different than recording
with 2 – 4 gig cards….
With FCP 5.1.2 the process of joining 2 spanned clips
seems to work much better than in the past…
Just test until you get your system down…

I think the P2 cards themselves are FAT32….
so the reason it said spanned clip is that
the 8 gig card records upto 4 gig and then
would span the clip I guess??
