June 13, 2005 at 6:28 pm in reply to: strange behaviour when overwriting clips in timeline.Maybe you’re inserting the clip? If you are a dragger and dropper, there are a few pitfalls. If you drag below the line in the video track, it’s an overwrite. If you drag above the line, it’s an insert. I do hope you know the difference.
My suggestion is to blow off dragging and dropping altogether and use F9 and F10 shortcuts instead. Waaaaay faster and more precise.
Draggin’ and droppin’s fer sissies anyway. 😉

No picture OR sound?
Do you have picture in the video monitor? You should have one to monitor your output. Are you speakers connected to the deck as they should be (and NOT the Mac?) Many people have this wrongly setup.
Sounds like two problems:
1) Your system is not set up properly
2) You need to trash your prefsThat’s all that’s wrong in my estimation.

Make certain that your speakers and monitor are connected to the DV Deck and NOT the Mac.

April,
You should have Title Crawl in your generators menu, so use that….don’t use Scrolling Text. Scrolling Text is so_uh, 5 years ago. Title Crawl will allow you to adjust wrapping.I really don’t recommend to use the legacy title generators anymore, they are bit map based while Title Crawl, Title 3D and LiveType are all vector based.
If you don’t see Title Crawl, it’s possible you didn’t install it to begin with. It’s in the Extras folder of the install disk.
Also, be sure to check your graphics on a video monitor, not the Canvas.

It’s 3.2 MB/sec, a little less than DV. I suggest internal SATA drives, not firewire drives. FireWire drives are not approved for capture by Apple.

June 10, 2005 at 3:41 pm in reply to: Is it possible to use multiple servers or macs for faster rendering and procesingSorry Jared. The days of hardware acceleration for rendering in FCP is over. Long ago, we had the ICE card, but alas, it never reached the market.
If it’s distributed rendering you want, it’s not here yet. You can do distributed encoding, however, with the latest version of Compressor using QMaster. So, all is not lost. You can encode DVDs faster if you have a network of Macs available.

First thing: Do you have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed? You need to have Arial Black in order for Title 3D to function and Explorer installs it.
If that doesn’t do it, do a find for:
Boris
Title 3D
Title Crawl
Calligraphy
Boris FXand then trash EVERYTHING.
Reinstall the app.
Good luck and hope that helps.

I noticed that you missed the crucial step of “making sequence clips independent” prior to running the Media Manager. Control click on the Sequence to make this choice. This might be the missing link in your workflow.
That being said: Clips behave better when they are short with distinct and different names. Lengthy tape length captures using Capture Now that are then subclipped and not renamed seem to be most problematic.
I choose to do things the old school way, and that is log and capture individual clips and steer clear from capturing entire tapes. That way, I can easily manage my media and don’t have the problems you describe.
But who actually logs clips anymore? Not many, I’d wager. Too bad, it takes longer in the short run, but in the long run you’re gonna be in better shape for recapturing, etc.

I suggest you merely break this bad habit and learn how to operate FCP correctly. It’s totally unnecessary to capture in iMovie. Logging clips is really helpful in the organizational process of editing.

Check the Auto Save Vault. Maybe you’ve actually got a back up.
NEVER EVER finish the work day w/o a working backup project file that is saved somewhere OFF your computer. To not do so is very, very foolish.
