There are 5 possible network solutions for FCP out there. Xsan is still the cheapest and most reliable, though. Any other duct tape and glue scenario is going to be mighty painful.

Here’s a spreadsheet explaining your options:

Yeah. Sounds like a good feature request. You should add it to the list on 2-pop or apple.com/discussions.

It totally makes sense if you zoom way in on the playhead. Note that the Playhead has a gray square hanging from it. It makes you realize that a frame, even as small as it is, has a duration of exactly ONE FRAME. That frame takes 1/30 of a second to play through it. If you mark in, you are using the playhead to mark the in at the leading edge of the frame. If you mark out using the playhead, you are marking the timecode at the END of the playhead’s “gray square”, which stands for 1/30 of a second later than the leading edge of the frame.

You guys are wanting the playhead to be a skinny stick which will only count TC at the leading edge of the frame, but the playhead is not that at all. It is a device which represents the ENTIRE frame, both the beginning and end of that single frame.

Bottom line? Get used to it if you are an Avid or FCP editor or you will constantly add an extra frame when use the playhead to mark out.

Note that when you use the Mark Clip function, it doesn’t add the extra frame on the out point. WHY? You are NOT using the playhead to mark that out.

It is improper use of the Playhead in Marking Out which is causing the confusion. Once you realize that the Playhead represents the FULL frame, not just the leading edge of it, it will make more sense as to why they made it that way.

MP3 is a highly compressed format for consumers. It generally sucks as a pro format. FCP is a pro tool and only handles pro formats. No sound library I know of ever comes stock with MP3, no matter the compression. So I’m sure you still have the uncompressed files, don’t you?

The fact that you ripped it into a format that’s not useful ain’t Apple’s fault.

No it won’t. Take the Io out of the chain. Monitor to the desktop.

  • Wouldn’t that be nice? The only stable solution for sharing FCP media and projects is with Xsan. It’s not cheap but very reliable.

Are your speakers connected to the Mac or the Cinewave BOB? Should be the Cinewave BOB. This is the most common cause of unknown audio buzzes.

Well, if you have long frames, your drives are too slow, too full or your clips are too long. Recall that Apple does not recommend external FireWire drives. You might try capturing to the internal drive instead.

Also toss your Prefs, do an audio mixdown and see if that helps you.
