  • I’m not sure it has to do with viability, ’cause MP3’s can be of high quality. Maybe because it’s simply the way the programs were written. Also, it may have to do with WHEN they were written. FCP’s base code is about 10 years old by now. Well before the time when MP3’s dominated the landscape. Avid code is even older. For both companies, it’s simply not been included in the upgrade plans. Be patient, though, maybe it’ll be included some day.

    Ooooh. This sounds ugly.

If you have not tried trashing prefs, do that first. If Batch Capture does not behave normally after reboothing, I’d suggest reinstalling FCP.

Finally, if these two things don’t work, reinstall Tiger using Erase and Install. Then reinstall FCP 5. Update QT to 7.0.1.

There’s the problem. You need to be in Safe RT and High Quality.

Make sure that you are enabled for high quality renders:
Safe RT at High Quality in the RT pop up menu
Full and Preview bars checked in the Sequence>Render Menus
Motion filtering quality set to best in the Sequence>Settings>Video Processing tab.

I am guessing it means “Reinstall FCP”. Can you try that?

Honestly, is it really necessary to have live backups of all your projects at all times? I just burn the project file and graphics to CD and put it on the shelf next to the master tapes. Less hassle, less expensive and yes, of course it works fine for restoring the project if need be. Rarely have I ever needed to restore an old project.

    Food for thought anyway.

In addition to what Matte said, you need to change the motion filtering quality to Best in the Video Processing tab of the Sequence Settings dialog for good results. You should also have the Full and Preview Bars checked in the Sequence > Render menus.

This is getting to be a very common problem.

In the Motion Tab, does the scale value say 100%?

Are you sure you are set up for high quality rendering? Is your Sequence>Settings Video Processing tab have motion filtering quality to Best? Are you in Safe RT at High Quality? Are both the Preview and Full bars checked in the Sequence>Render menus?

Not sure what to say about the IMX stuff.

By the way, $30 bucks a disk doesn’t sound outrageous to me. We used to have to pay more than $50 for every Beta SP load. I’d say use what works right now and learn to accept the workflow.
