  • Is it possible to use multiple servers or macs for faster rendering and procesing

Posted by Jared Kirshenbaum on June 10, 2005 at 3:14 pm

    Hi all.

I was wondering if it is possible to use a dedicated server or additional macs to help with the processing power of projects?

If so, can someone please put me in the right direction.

    Thanks
    J

How should these work together? You need new faster connections. The fastest connection is a Xraid over optical fibre channel.
Do you want to build a new computer connection? What do you want with more rendering? If you use the fastest Mac together with an xraid it is damned fast, mostly you don’t have to render. You could use Quantel systems, everything in real time.

I would like to speed up my rending time. Also, I want to be able to burn copies of my DVD’s quicker.

    Now I am using

    G5 Dual 2 Ghz
    3 GB DDR SDRAM
    Sony DVD RW DW-U10A

Sorry Jared. The days of hardware acceleration for rendering in FCP is over. Long ago, we had the ICE card, but alas, it never reached the market.

If it’s distributed rendering you want, it’s not here yet. You can do distributed encoding, however, with the latest version of Compressor using QMaster. So, all is not lost. You can encode DVDs faster if you have a network of Macs available.
