You could do this with a tracer object that connects two points with each other. Then add some in between points for a smooth curve. You could connect all points to all ways have a line showing then use a sweep nurb to draw the line. You could just draw the spline too. I’ve attached a quick file as an example.

Robert Leger had a tutorial on something similar to this using Xpresso on his old site I believe which should be on his vimeo channel. And on c4d tools there is a preset that connects two points for an electric ray. You could open that up and figure out something based on that.

    Hope this helps

Using the spline method is a good way to go about it. You might also want to target the camera to a null to aim the camera at as well.
Another way you could do it is using Chris Smith MoCam – https://circlesofdelusion.blogspot.com/2007/09/cstools-faq.html . Which allows you to setup the points where you want the camera to stop at(or run through) and then set the time for a smooth path.

There is also BaseCam which is similar but I have never used it.

If you want to do a full traditional 2D animated frame by frame cartoon it may be better to try it in Anime studio or Toon Boon, which is really good for that sort of work from what I hear. You could even use flash which is better for it(or at least older versions where).

You can of course do it after effects but its not really built around frame by frame animation workflow so you would develop it your self. The look of it is more based on how you or an artist design the character and how you animate it.

hope the spot comes out cool

It sounds like you need to use an iterator node in xpresso, like the objectlist to add items you put in a list and then iterate through them and apply them to you items. That would be one way for objects.

As for textures the quick way would be using a multi shader somehow on your dynamic objects. That way you could just load them and apply them all at once to your menu items. You can pull the items through the multi shader through xpresso too but I haven’t found a easy way to do it with all the shaders at once yet.

I’m sure there’s a way to do it through python but I only know tiny bit right now. If your interested in learning more check out the links below.

Not sure how you actually built yours in comparison to the tutorial but I did the tut real quick and the only way I was able to get sliding is if I put the effect on another layer in 3d space and offset the z position. Unless you have another effect that it is interfering with it it should work.

It would be hard to tell what is wrong in you scene with out a screenshot or a project file. I have uploaded my file for comparison 3691_writeoneffectfolder.zip

February 14, 2012 at 5:02 am in reply to: How to convert cube into a mograph object?

If your talking about a building “like(simple)” structure that is just made with cubes. You could just use a cloner set to object mode then using a simple building model you could tell it to use the shape of the buildings, vertex points, surface, etc… and have then have the cubes form that shape. Then using effectors you could have it build on in any way you like.

If your talking about a more complex object you may want to look into building it with thinking particles. You might be able to use a fracture object to break it apart and then build it together too. Or you could try the polygon unfolding technique.

There are a number a way to go about it you may be able to show it falling apart and then in either c4d or after effects time remap it and reverse it. The voxel preset & particle dissolve look good for that. Although time remapping in c4d can be a pain some times

February 3, 2012 at 5:28 pm in reply to: C4D spline & AE tracking?

If your tracking in AE with camera tracker, https://www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/cameratracker/. I haven’t used this tracker so I don’t know how it works. You could get the data to c4d with the ae to c4d plugin. Here is a link to a tut and the plugin –
    https://www.thepixellab.net/cinema-4d-tutorial-ae-c4d-maxon-plugin

Although I would thing it would be easier to use a tracker program that goes directly to c4d or a file it understands like pfhoe ( https://www.pfhoe.com/ ) or another program. You would have more control over it that way. Then you could go from c4d to ae with the aec or aep file.

I’m sure there are some other ways too.

    Hope this helps

February 2, 2012 at 10:19 pm in reply to: Assigning material problems…

I would first check what is the mapping that you have have set on your texture on your extrude nubrs. Click the square texture tag on the extrude nurbs and switch the projection to another one like cubic to see if it changes. It may be that it is on the front and back its just stretched and is only showing one color.

    Hope this helps

December 19, 2011 at 5:20 pm in reply to: internet demonstration

I would suggests asking the people who run the website if they have access to the design files used to make the site. That way you can get the psds or ai files used that is hopefully better quality then what they used for the site. This may not be the case and you may still have to do some recreation for some parts.

Sometimes you can get a way with screen capture or just downloading the images used to make the site directly from the web. It depends on how far you want to push it.

November 22, 2011 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Guidelines to achieve the following graphics/aesthetics

I can’t say for sure how they did this but it looks to my like a simulation of some sort. I think I would tackle this using some sort of fluid dynamics with varying degrees of color. I would think Maya would be good for something like this with is fluid dynamics that give you a lot of control over how color is implemented (density, temperature, speed, etc.. ). There also migh be way to create this by using displacements in 3D or flux field of some sort.

As far as how to do this in after effects, I’m not entirely sure. generally for fluid movement type things you might use fractal noise. But that would give you the perspective this has.

Using trapcode form you might be able to produce something similar. Or may be another particle plugin.

Hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas.
