FYI, STLedit has been taken off the market according to their website.

  • I’m a one-man shop but I freelance as an editor and a producer/director. I invoice all clients under my company name. I also work with many other editors and producers who also have a company name they work under. My feeling is that the preception of who I am and what I do is better respected than if I was just Greg. Just my opinion.

Take a look at the long thread in the Demo Reels Forum. Pay close attention to Ron’s message, I think that says it all.

    Hi Tim,

Doing well. I hope you are too. Just something that would be helpful to a potential client, or even a current client, that peak their interest and get them to read more. Perhaps some kind of factoid related to corporate/ business video, like…”More than 60% of medium to large businesses use DVDs to traing their employees” Or even a more meaningless yet entertaining factoid about video production.

I still don’t understand how you can do fast, cheap, quality. How does one do cheap quality?

    Thanks.

Still contracting for my old employer. They have a Synergy II switcher and digibeta decks. Along with a Deco CG. I guess it’s job security for me…as I’m a dinosaur with a dinosaur system.

We had a GVG 3000 when I was still employed there. Edited on D-2. They still have a D-2 machine, but about two weeks ago, the display died. I accidenly left it on overnight. The next day, the whole building smelled like something was burning. it was the D-2 machine.

Actually I have another corporate client who ONLY has an on-line suite with a sony 2000. They called me thiis week to do some work. Who said dinosaurs died a long time ago?

    Kieran,
Thanks for all of your input. You’ve been a tremendous help! I do have another question for you.

    What’s the difference between a G-SATA versus a G-Raid? Will both work on a Mac G5 if I have a dual boot with FCP5.1 and Media 100HDe?

The reason I ask, is I recently bought a G-SATA 320 GB with a Sonnet 4×4 card. My thought was to convert to SATA instead of replacing my failing SCSI drives on my G4 with Media 100i 8.2.

I’ve never made the move, as I need to update my OS, and everything has been working well on my curent system, so I’ve been afraid to update the OS, and add the SATA card.

I contract for a client who uses GRaid 500 drives on a FCK HD system. They seem to work flawlessly.
I’m confused as to when you would buy a Graid versus a G Sata. Any thoughts?

We’ve had success shooting off of a laptop screen, in a dark shooting space. Just watch out for any Moire effects. This way you can see the mouse cursor if needed.

Hi Steve, I understand. But would you write the contract with you as the owner? Not the client? This contract in regard to ownership seems to protect the client only. Your thoughts?
