Thanks Mads. Actually they never have to return to the dealer. As far as I’m concerned we are the dealer. Thanks for your help.

Hi Mads, typically I do it by a flat fee where I just mark up labor and custom items like a custom light grid and cyclorama.

Yes we are paid upfront for buying the equipment, as the equipment can cost well over $100,000

We tell the client what they need, or in rare instances they give us a wish list, but that doesn’t include additional items like cables and connectors. We research and propose a full list. That takes a lot of work!

The whole enchilada is easy to quote without showing any mark-ups. But when they just as for 2 additional lights to be hung on the grid, I can’t hide the mark-up, but I deserve to be paid a fee for my time. Does that make sense?

Is it safe to update? Or should we wait for 10.8.1?

  • My experience since FCP 3.0 is that this is a very stable platform. As a matter of fact, I see more info about Apps like Premiere Pro crashing.

The COVID Jab does not prevent COVID. A person who has had the jab can still spread COVID to everyone else. So if a person is “vaccinated” that’s a personal choice, and should not be dependent on an employer demanding that you be jabbed.

ALWAYS have a contract/agreement that specifies the scope of work, the fees, etc. Also for editing, always include revisions. For me, I include 2 rounds of simple revisions. Simple revisions are changing the order of clips, replacing a few clips, etc. After 2 rounds, my agreement says that we will charge (my hourly rate) until the client is satisfied. Otherwise, you are left with a never ending amount of editing. Also, never give the client the edited footage without payment first.

$500 per day is quite low, unless you have little experience.

  • I agree with both replies. (for some reason, I can’t reply to the main poster). FCPX Multicam is GREAT for this!!! You’ll end up with one track where you can trim the edges to get the exact timing you want without touching the audio track. EASY!!!!!

You can get an iMac 2020 5K anf then buy your own ram to get to at least 32gb
