Replying to this as its been 7 days and no one else has.

I’m not familiar with Plexus, but my guess is that if the plugin provides a depth matte, then that’s the way to achieve the result you’re after. VC Element has this feature for this kind of thing, for example.

Do shadows stack? In reality, shadows can only get so dark. If you’re wanting a darker shadow, you could duplicate your text layer, set it to the color you want, then position it below the original, so that it’s roughly where you want the shadow to be. Then parent it to the original.

Finally, use a copy of the “shadow catcher” layer as a track matte for the shadow, so that it only appears on the layer. – As John says: fake it.

  • I’d use the expression: loopOut(“pingpong”)

Set two rotation keyframes for the upper and lower points of the wing flap, then with the expression above, it will bounce the wings from one keyframe to the nexct and back again. Moving the keyframes closer together or further apart will let you set a speed.

If you need the wings to start and stop, nest the flapping animation and use Time Remapping to control that aspect.

  • I think the expression <em style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>sourceRectAtTime should get you the heights and widths of shape layers.

Everything I’ve ready suggests two drives are better than one. For years I only had a partitioned cache and I don’t notice much difference now that I have separates BUT the wear-and-tear on a drive being written to is a factor. I beleive SSDs have around 10,000-35,000 write cycles before they fail. And it’s a lot easier to replace a cache drive than replace your single hard drive.

UV mapping is a dark art. Just because something appears rectangular, doesn’t mean the texture takes into account bevels etc…

In the texture controls of Element there are offset and scale options, which should help it align.

That happens to me when AE/Element/Graphics card cannot handle the 3D. It’s fine in preview, but renders out as a white object.

Trying dropping the scale of your texture layers – maybe render them out first. And make sure your graphics card is up to date.

You might have to stack your chromakey effects. Use one layer to key out the hair, then garbage matte that and use a second layer to key out the clothes.

Sounds like the videos aren’t in a compatible codec. Might be worth trying to convert them and see if that resolves the issue.

Not used it myself, but take a look at Bodymovin and Lottie:
