  • green hair on green screen gets keyed out.

Hi Y’all, I’m doing some light key light work but one of the talent has green streaks through his hair that are almost identical to the green screen. When I key out the screen, the streaks go as well. I’m a bit stumped, but I feel like there should be an easy fix for this.

There is probably not an easy fix — the keyer is driven by color. If the talent needs to feature the color green, they should be shot on a blue screen instead of a green screen.

You’re probably going to have to rotoscope. Maybe Rotobrush will help you?

Rotobrush might have trouble, too, if the boundary between green hair and green screen is indistinct. Then you’ll have to do your roto by hand.

I appreciate it! I’ll give it a try.

Unfortunately the talent was wearing a clown wig that had both a blue stripe and green stripe in the hair. It is a slight issue, but one hopefully that can be resolved through Rotobrush. Thanks!

You might have to stack your chromakey effects. Use one layer to key out the hair, then garbage matte that and use a second layer to key out the clothes.
