  • If you find a way, let me know. I’ve resorted to keeping a folder of all my plugins, their install instructions and all my presets in a folder. When the next full upgrade happens, I just work through the folder from the top down.

Before doing this, it used to take me several hours, but I’ve just got a new PC and it took less than 45 minutes to get everything back in place. The only trouble with this method is that I forgot to update my effects and presets and I’d tweaked a couple recently. But I was able to open a recent project and overwrite them them there.

  • I don’t know if it’s the best way, but my method is that I have my transition as a preset with a linear wipe effect, turned off, but saved as part of it. With an expression to control the wipe set up already.

When I want a transition, I add it from Effects and Presets (which creates a new layer for it), and then I copy the linear wipe to the layer I’m transition to. And then relink the linear wipe’s expression to the transition layer.

There’s probably a “better” way using Essential Graphics, but this works well enough for me

  • AE’s VR comps should do this for you. When you create the VR environment, it actually creates 6 precomps (one for each side of the cube), then it adds them all to a single comp and applies a blending effect. If you dig through the project panel, you’ll find the 6 precomps.

  • Defintely shouldn’t delete this thread. It’s great not only that you solved it yourself, but that the came back to share it. Next person struggling now has a solution.

Would you post a link to the solution and I’d love to see your final result – it sounds cool.

Sorry, I’ve not been near the forums for a couple of weeks.

DUIK is not widely used, (which is almost a crime). Have you got DUIK installed?

February 6, 2022 at 2:11 pm in reply to: Using Mocha AE with rendered animation

    Hi Joshua,

    Welcome to the forums!

Mocha is a planar tracker, which uses dozens/hundreds of points on a surface to calculate a plane. With real footage there’s microscopic clues (pixels changes, light etc…) that it uses. With CG, there’s just not enough information to get a decent track.

But there’s good news – this is your 3D animation, so you should be able to bypass tracking altogether. What was the 3D package you used to generate the tablet? We should be able to import the camera and plane data directly into After Effects and use that

    Hey Richard,

You can either add Saber to a 2.5D layer and parent it to Element’s 3D Null or you can add it as a custom texture and create a material to add it to the Element model.

    Hope that makes sense,

    Graham

Unfortunately I can’t see your image, but if you register your Boris Mocha AE included plug-in, (in the animation menu) one of the perks offered is Stage Light, a lovely effect which creates 3D light beams.

There’s nothing attached but this has happened to me before. I’m sorry it’s likely gone. There are lots of possible causes, but emptying your cache before rendering can help and emptying any auto-AME folders can too.

If it’s a long sequence and this happens again, try rendering it out from AE as an image sequence. This will take care of all the FX and should it fail part way through, you don’t have to re-render the first part again.

Set a gradient layer and then expand the X Position in the effect and set the mutiplier. That will break up the layer and allow you to see the rows and columns.
