I think i would personally just manually adjust the position of the speaker camera, and add a mask after the fact to keep the mask size and shape the same.

Tracking is going to be troublesome, as the mask has no real relation to the speaker, and trying to stabalize the speaker whose arms, head, legs are moving is probably going to give you a lot of flubbery looking artifacts.

I think this is an instance where the automated method might not be as simple as the manual method.

“HighTail has a review function. Their 1 TB storage plan is reasonably priced, IMO. They have a 25GB per transfer limit, which is higher than all the file transfer services I looked at.”

I pay for smash instead of hightail. No transfer restriction.

Even their free version is pretty good size wise compared to others.

  • I don’t believe this is an option…wish it were as well.
I usually have automonitoring turned off, so my track monitor doesn’t change…if you turn it in, and map you video track selectors, does that change your track monitor accordingly?

I’ve also played with mapping the screen position so I could use an auto hit key macro…that is a possibility, bit you have to nail down your screen setup

  • I think you will find it much better to develop your own strategy. My keyboard settings have been developing since ’95, and i do still change something every now and then. Me telling you to put add edit on F8, match frame on F7 and find bin on F6 is meaningless when someone else says, “I would put match frame on “M” for match frame. It becomes something only you can feel comfortable with.

I will say my favorite mapped key is the Escape key. I have overwrite edit mapped there. My reasoning is simple…it is the one key on the keyboard that i can always find without ever having to look down at the keys. In offline editing it is used A LOT, and it has just become muscle memory for me. Mark in, mark out…reach up and bam…escape.

For my keys, i’ve mapped Overwrite Edit, render effect, remove effect, Trim mode (which cycles through left, right and centre) find bin, match frame, add edit, audio mixer, audio tool, new video, new audio, add marker, go to next marker, go to previous marker, go to next and previous event, effect editor, effect pallate. and replace edit. I have zoom in/out on the timeline mapped to the wheel of my mouse through a third party program. There are others who will look at this list and say “i don’t map that key” and “why don’t you map this key” To each his (her) own.

I will also add that I have recently added the large stream deck and two smaller stream decks to my desk, which allows a huge amount of flexibility when creating commands that are used all the time.
Those with the Protools deck have taken my hands off the keyboard and mouse quite a bit, and certainly helped with the re-occurring carpel tunnel.

March 7, 2020 at 8:08 pm in reply to: Avid Media Composer | Bin Merge | Bins not seen

I would just go to where your avid projects are stored, and zip up the project you are working on.

Go to the second machine and unzip the project to it’s avid projects location.

If the project already exists there, move it to a different location, or point avid to the new location of the current version.

If you are trying to open a bin from machineA, on machineB, but machine B already has a copy of that bin within the project, you are asking for trouble. You have to make sure the original is not open.

Easier way is to just copy the project over, and open it on the new box.
If there are items on machine B that are needed in machine A’s project…well, now you are getting a bit hairy in what you are trying to do without a shared bin locking system.

I would look at the type of tiff you are trying.

    what type of compression.
What bit rate. I use tiffs in Fusion all the time as well, so it is probably coming down to a tiff format option, as not all tiffs are created equally.

You may want to do the full comp in fusion.
Could be a premultiply setting that is not turned on somewhere, possibly in fusion?

If you do the comp in fusion, and it doesn’t look right, then look in your image tab (i think) for a premultiply switch.

  • There used to be an import setting that would drop the audio level of music..I think imported if cd ..by an amount you could specify.

Not sure if it is still kicking around anywhere.

But certainly for the sake of a typical workflow, it just brings it in
    clean

February 15, 2020 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Migrating AAF From Media Composer 5 to Adobe CS6

I think poster is going from Avid to Premiere, so it might be more if a “where is the media” question if the AAF is opening. You did say your aaf opens with a bunch of un-needed sequences. Usually you would just export an AAF of the sequence you are working on.

If you open the AAF back in avid what do you get?
