Definitely use Firewire at least, USB is pretty much worthless for video editing because of the way it sends packets of information. Change your media settings so that capture goes to the external drive and when you are done digitizing copy the avid project over to the other machine and you should be good to go. You might have to do a reconnect dance but I think that’s all.

The fluid motion setting if amazing, but it comes with it own type of artifacting. I would recommend after you nail your speed ramp to duplicate the clip and try a couple of the settings like interpolated frame and even the simple duplicated frame to find the \”look\” that best suits your content. Each one has different results and none is a magic bullet. Good luck.

I am not in front of an Avid right now so I cant give you a play by play, but the way I used them was by mapping the “add marker” to my keyboard. They can be added to the timeline of a sequence or to a clip in the viewer. Once added, a quick double click will give you the ability to change marker color and add comments to the marker that can be viewed once you scrub over them. I always found them useful for writing those ideas that you never seem to remember if you don’t write them down that moment.

You could continue with the colored clips and markers concept from fcp. Click on the clip and go edit>clip color to set the color that you could sift the bins by. Also within the clip, add markers and double click to type in whatever you need to each marker’s comments on the fly. Sub clips arranged in bins by topic or creating sequences of selects by topic could help too. Good luck.Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

When transcoding the footage, did you set audio to 48KHz rather than 44KHz. I have heard of fcp audio drift from a couple reliable sources and they have attributed this as one fo the causes. Might be worth a bit of google searching on audio drift. Thats all I got. Good Luck.

I have not used that plugin but with your included BCC bundle of effects you can utilize the Composite effect. Also the Paint effect has blend modes built in that you could have some fun with. Good luck.

Hey Justin,
I would say consolidate the offline sequence so you just have all the clips used in the sequence you need. Then do a batch import on just those clips, you will probably have to direct it the new location where the master clips are. They will be coming in as the XDCAM 35 or 50 clip format, so depending on what your output is going to be you will probably have to transcode this now online sequence to one of the DNxHD flavors.
