Wow, no fast start? That’s just sad. In terms of bitrate you should be able to type in whatever you want rather than take their preset. I know I have done plenty at 5Mb in the past. I just checked the square5 site and it looks like ver 1.9.2 of MPEG streamclip can add watermarks

Personally I love this free compressor but have an older version that doesn’t do that. I will be remedying that soon.Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

Hey Joe,
I believe you can do this in Sorrenson Squeeze. Basically send your Dnx same as source file or a reference to Squeeze and then there is a watermark function that will comp it in during the compression. I have not done this myself and unfortunately do not have squeeze in front of me right now but believe it is possible this way. Best of luck.Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

Here is a fun little app that can be helpful if you find yourself wondering off to random internet stuff, for me it is mostly twitter. You set it to run for an amount of time and then an alarm will sound which will give you a little break to go explore the web or go for a walk. True self control should be enough to combat this ADD but Ill honestly say I don’t have it.

Also there is a wonderful podcast called “Back to Work” that I highly recommend along with all the other podcasts in the 5by5 network that deal with productivity and creativity.

Funny you bring that up Mark, last night I was at a screening of David Fincher’s Zodiac where they played some of his music videos and the MC brought up that exact point. Here is a link to one of them

If you notice there are a couple places where you would totally expect him to cut on beat but the hits come just a little behind picture cut. Excellent point about the “human” drummer.

Adam,
I totally agree and wouldn’t have made much of a fuss until I listened to the latest episode of The Terence and Philip Show podcast where they really go into the potential of Thunderpants (love it btw) on post production. I think it is worth a listen https://www.theterenceandphilipshow.com/Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

Other than the lack of NVIDIA cards and thus the hit to cuda, I don’t think there is a reason to not go with a new macbook. With this advent of thunderbolt, the way we work is going to change dramatically. Personally, I am going to hold off for the release of imac’s with thunderbolt for my next purchase but if you have to buy a laptop, go with it.

January 26, 2011 at 3:12 pm in reply to: MC Quicktime Reference Export – Color IssueYou are entering the world of the monster known as the quicktime gamma shift. If you just search those three words you will get a heaping of info on the pain involved. I can’t say I ever defeated the beast but found ways of working around it. I would recommend going to a different program than quicktime pro to do the conversions. Sorrenson or Compressor (if it will accept avid ref files) would be the starting place. I have used MPEG streamclip to turn DNxHD files into ProRes before and it worked pretty well, but don’t know about the ref files. Good luck.
