    hi,

im speed ramping a clip. footage is from an final cut project – which speed tool sucks, so im using avid for the speed ramps. i get the effect that i like, however it doesnt look as smooth as it should. what render settings should i use for smoothest results.

the footage is brought in 1-1 from 1080p apple pro res clip.

    thanks,

    js

Once you have your speed ramp set, open up the motion editor (effect editor, then click the Motion effect on your clip). Promote it, set your render to FluidMotion, hit render and get some coffee (it will take a while). Should be smooth as butter after that.

The fluid motion setting if amazing, but it comes with it own type of artifacting. I would recommend after you nail your speed ramp to duplicate the clip and try a couple of the settings like interpolated frame and even the simple duplicated frame to find the \”look\” that best suits your content. Each one has different results and none is a magic bullet. Good luck.
