Well I think the one voice missing from this threat is that of a 20 something (albeit in a couple years I’m out of the club). I won’t take away anything said so far because I certainly have seen a majority of my young peers who have skated through life and their career opportunities. But I implore you guys not to give up on us as a whole, had that happened I never would have gotten the shot I did and there will be more hungry, driven kids who will not get the chance to prove you wrong. I will admit I was probably hired more out of a cheap rate than talent, but I luckily made due and have to subscribe to the hard work over talent category. Youth has its ego but it also has a fresh perspective that can help in this business when groomed and mentored. I will say a military father helped instill the work ethic and “listen 10 times more than talking” motto that kept me from digging my own grave at work. The thirst for knowledge, that I know many of my cohorts share, is what kept me asking questions and pushing myself as well as the seasoned veterans I worked under. I was able to bring a lot of new workflows and ideas to the table in the digital, tapeless age that pushed our company and those vets in trade for the decades of knowledge they shared with me. It may be that you have to dig into these punks a little deeper or hold them closer to the vest, but please don’t give up on us entirely. We may be ignorant, slow, and goof-ups at times, but hopefully we can prove you wrong with passion, drive, and commitment.

Was there any free software that came with the camera to help use the files it makes? On a quick search I found this which might be helpful

Do you have a copy of sorenson squeeze that would have come with your avid software? Another option would be MPEG StreamClip, which you can download for free. Convert the file to uncompressed for no loss or to one of the avid DNxHD codecs for very very little loss but more manageable file sizes.

Hey Mahmoud,
I would say your best bet is to bring all you 7D files in and transcode to DNxHD 36 for your offline. It keeps the files small and avid likes it best, speed wise. When you are at picture lock, consolidate your sequence and batch import the original files again. Here it is really up to you on how big you want to go but I, personally, had great results transcoding to DNxHD 175X for 10 bit color correction.Best of luck.Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

Steve,
That linkedIn link is broken unless you are in the group it was posted in. Do you mind including the name of the group? Thanks, look forward to reading it.Editor / Motion Graphics Artist

You could always ask them to supply you with a different format, such as animation or uncompressed. On another note I learned from someone on twitter today that the adobe programs were not interpreting the ProRes 422 color info correctly and he had to go with uncompressed 10bit to keep the grade the same. May be another point to bring up to the potential client.

Microsoft Excel has a great invoice template that has the math already built in. Took less than 10 minutes to customize.

Hey Stephen,
You do not need to use the resize effect, there is a scaling function built into SpectraMatte. Just scroll down to the bottom of the parameters and there is a group called scaling. You can also up promote the effect to 3D with a click of a little button at the very bottom right of the effect editor. This will give you most of the parameters that are associated with the 3D warp effect. Good Luck.-Glen
