What is the best settings for an HD project to work offline? What should be video resolution of my project to work offline smoothly?

    System Info.:
    Mac Bookpro: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB memory / Mac OS X 10.6.4
    Software: Avid Media Composer 4.0.2
    Footage: 1920×1080 / Canon 7d
    Hard Drive: external firewire 400

The import window gives me these options:
    AVC-Intra 100 MFX
    DNxHD 36 MFX
    DNxHD 115 MFX
    DNxHD 175 MFX
    DNxHD 175 X MFX
    XDCAM EX 35 Mbits MFX
    XDCAM HD 50 Mbits MFX
    1×1 MFX
    1x1p 10 Mbits MFX

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hey Mahmoud,
I would say your best bet is to bring all you 7D files in and transcode to DNxHD 36 for your offline. It keeps the files small and avid likes it best, speed wise. When you are at picture lock, consolidate your sequence and batch import the original files again. Here it is really up to you on how big you want to go but I, personally, had great results transcoding to DNxHD 175X for 10 bit color correction.Best of luck.

    Hi,
The scroll bar in my timeline has changed to a series of vertical blue lines/bars. I cant scroll when I move the cursor on the scroll tool in the timeline. It zooms in or out when I scroll. Both zoom in/out and scroll tool function the same way. Any suggestions?

    Software: Media Composer 4.2
    Hardware: MacBook pro

I am a bit confused on this. Will setting the project to 10 bit improve an 8 bit video coming out of the 7D?
