digitize to external hard drive
Howdy-
I’m looking to digitize footage from one Avid Media Composer, put the clips on an external hard drive then take the footage to another system and edit. Both systems are both MC 4.xx.
What am I overlooking? What is the better path, USB or Firewire? Is this possible?

Definitely use Firewire at least, USB is pretty much worthless for video editing because of the way it sends packets of information. Change your media settings so that capture goes to the external drive and when you are done digitizing copy the avid project over to the other machine and you should be good to go. You might have to do a reconnect dance but I think that’s all.
