  • Hi Austin,

Can you upload a 10 second sample of your source media here, so we can try it?

Jamie, use the free app Mediainfo in text mode and post the specs of your source media please.

    Hi Roger,

I don’t have VP14 so can not check to see if this preference is available.

In VP16, > Option > Preferences > Editing tab, check ‘Automatically overlap multiple selected media when added’, then set the overlap amount and type of alignment.

June 23, 2019 at 11:27 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro render crash at 50%

HI Justin, it will help others offer a possible solution if you post more details about your system, your version, your project and the additional details available from the crash window.

So, what version OS, what are your system specs, what version of Vegas Pro and build number, the specs of your source media, your project settings, the specs of your render format template. Screenshot of what you can are very helpful. And also add at least a general idea of your project workflow.

Often times if you get a crash at the same point repeatedly it is either caused my source media at that point in the project, or some process at that point in the project such as an FX that you have applied. We diagnose that by going to the 50% point in the project and removing what is at that point and then perform a test render. If the render complete it is a pretty good bet whatever you removed is causing a problem and depending on what that is, perhaps there is a work around you can apply to finish up the project.

  • Hi Seth,

The B-52 was post WW-II, it didn’t have engines and propellers. WW-II vintage heavy bombers would be like B-17, B-25, B-24, B-29 and some others. They should not have had static, unless they were wearing a defective headset, but there would have been a lot of engine/propeller noise depending on what position the crew member was.

    Grazie, that was pretty creative.

Seth, as Grazie’s example, there would not be any whistling bomb sound effects or engine/propeller roar passing. You cannot hear the bombs falling in the aircraft and the engine/propeller sound would be constant unless climbing or descending (but not as in passing by) with some oscillation type sound from the engines when they are sync’ed, and some airflow sounds. But, I’m sure you have the engine sound inflight effect already.

  • Hi Michael,

Yes, upload a sample here and I will be happy to look at it and compare loading and processing times.

Also, if our theory is correct, that the source file is the issue, it may not be a bug with Vegas. All the NLE’s that I am familiar with have some restrictions on the source media they will handle. Some do more than others, but other than maybe Premiere they all have some media they just don’t like. But it never hurts to send in the issue to Magix and see what they do with it.

  • Michael, sounds like the mystery is solved…..

Movie Studio has the same problem, and VP16 doesn’t have an issue with the converted file.

So, it appears it is your source media.

If you have more of these source media files, you may want to consider using something like the free app Handbrake to transcode/convert your source, as Handbrake may not have the same problem loading and may be much faster converting.

  • Hi Michael,

Vegas will read/load the file into memory and for the amount of memory you have and the small file size, I would say the entire file is in memory. Once loaded, Vegas will use the appropriate codec to decode the file. It needs to do this frame by frame and sometimes, depending on the codec it will need to look forward several frames and then go back to assemble the contents of several frames into one before progressing to display the next frame. You probably know all this.

Where is it choking, when loading the file, or during playback? Is the wait time during building the audio wave? After you start a new project and load, waiting until finished, close that project and open the project for the second time, it load time shorter and/or playback smoother?

What has changed in your system, OS, etc.?

If you have been using Vegas Pro 16 for a while, try a full reset of the program and delete the cached application data.

This may be one of those problems you are going to need to add a lot of information about your workflow and system for members to help.

June 18, 2019 at 4:46 pm in reply to: Rendering 4k clips to a 1080 movie?

    Hi Leszek,

If you were using Vegas Pro 13 or later you could do it your way, slap all the 4K and FHD on the timeline, zoom in on any 4K part and render it out.

I’m not familiar with VP11, and if it doesn’t do 4K, that may be the reason Francois suggest his way.

I would add caution in these areas……

Your phone footage is most likely variable frame rate. I would use something like the free app Handbrake and convert that footage to constant frame rate.

Then your frame rate, if their is a difference between your FHD footage and the phone 4K 60 fps. You need to match those and there are several ways to do it, and depending on the render frame rate it may not make a lot of difference in the final product. For example, if your FHD is is 29.970 fps (30p) and your phone footage is 59.940 (60p), rendering out to 29.970 fps will be a snap, although if you have any fast action in the 4K footage it will not look as smooth as 29.970 fps as it does in 59.940 fps. If you render out to 59.940 fps, the 30p FHD footage is going to be choppy, unless you use a third party speed ramping program with optical flow technology.

4k UHD is a perfect match to 1080 FHD with a 16:9 aspect ratio. However 4K does not match 1920×1080 so you will need to use Track Motion or Pan&Crop to match the FHD frame size to avoid black boarders.

I watched your video ‘Albania 2018’, thank you for sharing. My suggestion would be to slow down the pans and slow down your camera moves. Avoid the shadow exposure to bright light exposure in the same scene, it is crushing the blacks and blowing out the whites. Balance (color match) the color correction from scene to scene.

  • Hi Andrew,

I’m not familiar with your setup. But for future recordings I would look for a setting within the audio recording and video capture and determine if you can enduse a delay that will sync the capture video with your voice over.

For the captures you already have, I would just ungroup the video from the audio and then shift one or the other (I usually shift the audio, but either will work) until you get sync. Once you get it sync’ed check to see hw far off it is and that will be your guide for how much you will need to delay in your future recordings.

If your audio is off the same amount through the recording, this method will work. But if your audio has an increasing or decreasing sync rate throughout the recording, that is going to make a mess.

Also, I would suggest downloading the free trial of Plural Eyes and try it out. After you see how easy it is for this app to sync your recordings you may find it worth the price.

    Hope this helps….

    Best Regards……George
