By that I mean, the sound a pilot or anyone would have heard when flying an old bomber mission in WW2 – static, not so clear. Are there are plug-ins in VEGAS Pro 14 or any that I can download (preferably for free) or any other way to achieve this effect? Thanks.

For a start, use the Parametric EQ effect (found in all versions of Vegas) and choose the Phone Line Effect option.
Play with the Center Frequency and Bandwidth settings.
This won’t give you any kind of static but should be close to what you want.

    Hi seth

If you’re looking for static, and any other kind of foley, you can search on Freesound. It’s all free. You just have to register to download and Voilà !

    Hi Seth,

The B-52 was post WW-II, it didn’t have engines and propellers. WW-II vintage heavy bombers would be like B-17, B-25, B-24, B-29 and some others. They should not have had static, unless they were wearing a defective headset, but there would have been a lot of engine/propeller noise depending on what position the crew member was.

    Grazie, that was pretty creative.

Seth, as Grazie’s example, there would not be any whistling bomb sound effects or engine/propeller roar passing. You cannot hear the bombs falling in the aircraft and the engine/propeller sound would be constant unless climbing or descending (but not as in passing by) with some oscillation type sound from the engines when they are sync’ed, and some airflow sounds. But, I’m sure you have the engine sound inflight effect already.

    Best Regards……George

[George Dean] “Grazie, that was pretty creative.”

With the “facts” or my outcome? George, seriously, thanks for the History lesson. I really enjoyed scoping and then painting that sound experience.

It’s a curse! I see and then hear it. I’ve done loads of real time Audio to Timelines.
