Edit the whole thing first, THEN remove the dead spots thusly:
Select Area to delete
Ctr/A
Delete
Ctrl/F
Shift/Ctrl/A

You can make any changes to the Master track (fades, etc)exactly the same as an edit you manually created.

No, Movie Studio is the “Lite” version of Sony Vegas.

Anyway, this should work fine for you:
Hit Ctrl/A to select everything
S to Split
Drag the now-highlighthed project elements on the right of the split
Ctrl/Shift/A to deselect everything

If your hard drive is formatted as FAT32, it’s breaking them up because of a 4Gig limitation.

Well, if we are talking about a letterbox effect, then the pixel layout is all the same except the bars on top and bottom are made up of black pixels.

[The Old Fart] “if you have a larger file you can’t use DVDA’s fit to disk option or alternatively you had to have the best possible bit rate set in Vegas 5 first otherwise you are always going to get DVDA having to re render.”

You can take advantage of the information from DVDA’s Fit to Disc option as a bit rate calculator to determine your settings when encoding on Vegas.
