  • Getting rid of timecode

Posted by Jerry Waters on June 6, 2006 at 2:14 pm

Somehow in moving footage to a new veg a timecode appears in the lower right corner. I don’t know why. (I never use or want it.) I can’t get rid of it. I thought if I rendered a new file it probably wouldn’t be there. It was. How did I get it? How do I get rid of it? I can’t find anything under “Help.”

You’ve added a timecode effect somewhere. Check the effects on the event, track, media pool, and project to figure out where it is.

It is not in event or track. It has to be in media pool but I never put stuff there and don’t use it so I don’t know how to remove it. As usual, “Help” has no simple answer.

In the media pool I clicked on the file and “properties.” It says “Use Timecode on file” and there is no way I can see to turn it off. The only thing is to change the way the timecode is displayed. When I tried clicking the “Use Timecode” button Vegas almost crashed, went off screen and came back but wouldn’t leave.

I finally found it. Select media on timeline, right click, select in media bin, right click, media fx and it came up with a timecode in that I NEVER used under any circumstances. If anyone could explain how that happened, I would greatly appreciate it.

As I understand it, there are roving gangs of very skilled tecno-burglers that sneak into your workspace when you are away and apply timecode to whatever they can get tere hands on!

Tools – Scripting – “Add Timecode To All Media”
Tools – Scripting – “Remove Timecoded From All Media”

These will add or remove the Timecode FX for all media in the Project Media.

Now THAT is helpful. That and spraying for Gremlins. Fortunately, it was covered in my homeowner’s policy.
