OK… i have the tally bars but my prtogram has large “dead spaces” between dance pieces that need to be removed.

before, i had all of them trimmed out and excalibur basically refused to gaive me a tally or number my preview PIP

so… i reloaded the media – not deleting any dead spaces and all worked fine with excalibur and multi cam , but now i don;t think i can clean up the dead spaces and remove those because it effects the master track…

so here is the big question…

multiple clips on 2 cams all synced up…
normally you could go and just delete the dead spaces between dance pieces and keep everything all synced.

so how do you deal with this in excalibur – i tried cleaning up my program and running excalibur sync and multi cam and thats where i had a problem…

now that i got it to work there seems no way to clean up my tracks now?

    Am i missing something?

looks like a morning worth of work down the tubes so far…

OK… if i go into the CTRL/Shift A and remove a block, i can get rid of dead space…

but is this the best way, and then what is the best way to fade up from black between selections that are trimmed… the master track seems to have a bearing on this and i want to make sure i have the concept or procedure down

or… am i on the wrong track completely by trying to do multiple “dances”…. is the program meant to deal with only single program events (like one dance selection – but not the entire act 1 ??

Edit the whole thing first, THEN remove the dead spots thusly:
    Select Area to delete
    Ctr/A
    Delete
    Ctrl/F
    Shift/Ctrl/A

You can make any changes to the Master track (fades, etc)exactly the same as an edit you manually created.

    thanks Gray, i think i’
m beginning to figure it out.. the master track appears to be its own animal…\\

so, i snipped out the dead spots like you said and inserted black from media generator and put that in the master track…. so it fades to and from black now.

BTW… when i render this out, do i just render the master track and all audio???

Sort of. The Master track is actually a combination of all of your camera choices. The Master track is the ONLY video track you really need once Multi-cam has been run.

[wayne grauel] “so, i snipped out the dead spots like you said and inserted black from media generator and put that in the master track…. so it fades to and from black now.”

Black media shouldn’t be needed (but won’t hurt). You can simply do a standard fade in/out but you’ll need to make sure nothing on any lower track is in that area so you may find it easier using the black media method.

I typically wait until after Multi-cam has been run before removing dead spots. I also have found that for more exact placements, I like to split out the section to be removed, delete that section, and then I use the Select Events tool in Excalibur to select everything after the gap. Then I can move it all forward very easily.

If you take out the gaps BEFORE creating the Master track, be very careful that you do NOT delete the events on the “MasterTally2” track. There will be one for each camera angle in the middle of the project.

[wayne grauel] “when i render this out, do i just render the master track and all audio???”

Almost. You need to edit the audio as well deciding which audio track you want to hear at any given time. Sometimes you may want to hear a little bit of multiple tracks. That’s why Excalibur puts a volume envelope on each audio track for you – to make it easy to adjust volumes.

For example, on the graduation video I’m working on now, whenever someone was at the podium I’m using strictly the wireless mic signal. When the choir or band were singing/playing, I’m actually using part wireless mic and part camera mic (both at a reduced volume as the volumes are additive.)

Ed.. thanks for the detailed info.

i am editing the audio as i go.. fades etc.. using live feed and a board mix… so when i do the final render, do i delete both cam tracks and just leave the master tack and the audio.. then render them to mpg and ac3… i think thats what i hear you saying.

Many thanks for all of this!!!

No need to delete the cam tracks. When you render it only incudes what can be seen when you play your project.
