As I correct in saying that if I wish to make a DVD using Vegas 5 & DVDA 2 & import my files into DVDA as AVI’s rather than MPEG2 I loose control over the rendering? By that I mean I can’t see any way in DVDA to specify things like single pass, dual pass, progressive or interlaced, good or best quality ETC?

If this is the case just what settings is DVDA using for encoding to MPEG2?

    Thanks in advance

You are right! In Vegas you can set the parameters you want for rendering to MPEG. As for the settings, well, there’s no one setting that works for everything-it depends on what the project is—-single pass, 2 pass, bit rate, AC3 audio or PCM audio, make sure to use the right template to get started and then customise it to fit the needs.

There is no cookie cutter answer but you might want to look at Edwards newletters-especially VOL 1 number 7 to get you started with a bit rate chart just to get you started.

That also means if you have a larger file you can’t use DVDA’s fit to disk option or alternatively you had to have the best possible bit rate set in Vegas 5 first otherwise you are always going to get DVDA having to re render. These aren’t very good choices

    Thanks in advance

[The Old Fart] “if you have a larger file you can’t use DVDA’s fit to disk option or alternatively you had to have the best possible bit rate set in Vegas 5 first otherwise you are always going to get DVDA having to re render.”

You can take advantage of the information from DVDA’s Fit to Disc option as a bit rate calculator to determine your settings when encoding on Vegas.
