I didn’t build it myself (see post above).
It’s an AMD 64 x2 4800+ in an Asus A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard. 1 GIG (for now) PC 3200 DDR 400 .
This CPU has 2x 1 MB cache and is pretty expensive (about $1000), there are other CPUs in the line that are about half that with very good performance.

I have always been able to work with Best preview mode, even when I used a Pentium 1.6 GHz.
Anyway… I added Color Correction and Color Curves, and get full frame rate (29.97). Turning on the waveform monitor as well slows it to about 28.7.

The first tool I go to for this type of thing is Color Curves.

The Mixer window reads out the total volume as you play. If you don’t see it go to View>Mixer.
If you have already mixed several sources, the easiest way to control overall volume over time is to apply a volume envelope on the master track (hit B to bring that up).

It shouldn’t make any difference in terms of DVD mastering, however defragmenting your drives occasionally is a good practice to follow to keep access speed optimal.

In the Project Media tab, right-click the media > Media FX> Sony Timecode.

PCM is higher quality, AC-3 is a much smaller file.
Stick with the default sampling frequency.Gary

Put each video on its own track with the background on the bottom, then resize using Track Motion. The button is on the video track header on the left.
